Finding the Right Product

Choosing the right styling product shouldn’t feel like guessing.

Every product is designed to do something different. Some create volume. Others add shine, control frizz, or hold your style in place.

The best product depends on your hair type, haircut, daily routine, & the look you’re trying to achieve.

Let’s break them down.

Clay

Best for: Texture • Matte Finish • Volume

Clay creates a natural, lived-in finish with strong texture. It’s one of the best choices if you don’t want your hair to look overly styled.

Great for:

  • Fine to medium hair

  • Short to medium lengths

  • Textured crops

  • Modern messy styles

Avoid if:

  • You want noticeable shine.

  • Your hair feels very dry.

Paste

Best for: Everyday Styling

Paste is one of the most versatile products available. It provides flexible hold while keeping your hair touchable throughout the day.

Great for:

  • Most hair types

  • Daily styling

  • Medium hold

  • Natural movement

Cream

Best for: Soft Control

Cream adds moisture, controls frizz, & keeps hair looking natural without stiffness.

Great for:

  • Wavy hair

  • Curly hair

  • Medium to long hair

  • Air drying

Perfect if you want your hair to look effortless instead of heavily styled.

Pomade

Best for: Shine & Control

Pomades create polished hairstyles with smooth definition.

Great for:

  • Slick backs

  • Side parts

  • Comb overs

  • Curly hair needing definition

Choose a water-based pomade for easier washing or an oil-based pomade for maximum hold & shine.

Texture Powder

Best for: Instant Volume

Texture powder adds lift directly at the roots while absorbing excess oil.

Great for:

  • Fine hair

  • Flat hairstyles

  • Modern textured cuts

  • Refreshing second-day hair

A little goes a long way.

Sea Salt Spray

Best for: Building Texture

Sea salt spray creates natural movement before styling.

Use it on damp hair before blow drying to build volume & texture that other products can hold onto.

Wax

Best for: Definition

Fiber

Best for: Matte Hold

Great for:

  • Quiffs

  • Crops

  • Textured styles

Texture Spray

Best for: Lived-In Hair

Texture spray adds separation, fullness, & movement without making hair feel heavy.

Perfect for medium & longer hairstyles.

Hair Oil

Best for: Moisture & Shine

Hair oil smooths frizz, softens dry hair, & helps protect damaged ends.

Great for:

  • Long hair

  • Curly hair

  • Bleached hair

  • Dry hair

Heat Protectant

Best for: Blow Drying & Hot Tools

Heat protectant helps reduce damage caused by blow dryers, curling irons, & straighteners.

If you’re using heat, this should always be your first styling product.

Dry Shampoo

Best for: Extending Wash Days

Dry shampoo absorbs oil while adding volume between washes.

Perfect for refreshing your style without shampooing again.

How I Think About Styling

Most people don’t need more products.

They need the right products.

If you need six different products every morning just to make your haircut look good, something probably isn’t working.

My goal is to help you build a routine that’s realistic—not complicated.

Products I Actually Recommend

These are products I personally use behind the chair or recommend because they’ve consistently performed well.

I don’t carry products just to fill a shelf.

If it’s here, it’s because I believe it earns its place.

Hanz de Fuko Quicksand

Best for: Maximum texture, volume, & a matte finish.

One of my favorite products for clients who want fuller-looking hair without a shiny appearance. It adds incredible grip while still allowing your hair to move naturally.
